The history of CAIR dates back to 1928, when four Italians and two Italian nationals with Jewish descent founded Compagnia Agricola Industriale Rodi. Accordingly they gave it the name C.A.I.R., by which it is still known today, a company with both agricultural and industrial direction.

After the Dodecanese islands were united with the rest of Greece in 1947, the Agricultural Bank expressed its interest in buying the shares of CAIR, so that it would no longer be an Italian company, but a Greek one.

Since the end of 1947, the company operated under the ownership of Mr Bodosakis, until April 1954, when he sold his shares to the Dodecanese Association of Agricultural Cooperatives.

Historically, CAIR was the first company to produce sparkling wine with the traditional method (secondary fermentation in the bottle – Méthode Traditionnelle)

As part of the agricultural industry, we fully depend on our surrounding, just as it depends on us. That’s why we grow our produce organically and sustainably. Over the past decades the carbon footprint of the winery has been positive, which is something we’re really proud of.
